I have had dogs all my
life. While growing up my father who was very active in hunting
owned and trained cockers, pointer, Irish setter, a mix Irish
setter and cocker and Labrador Retrievers. I use to love to help
my father work the dogs. Then, as I was a tad older I had the
opportunity to go out and participate in shoots with him every
fall. This went on for several years. As I went off the college
and then university my level of being around the dogs was
lessened. For many years I also rescued and placed over 300
Labradors that needed new homes.
I decided to start up in
1981 doing hunt tests and work with several other breeders in
the area who had good working lines of Labradors, Weims,
Chesapeake’s. I fell in love with the Labrador and the abilities
this breed offered. The opportunity presented itself that I was
good at training a dog to do what it was bred for. I choose the
Labrador for workable temperament, keenness, drive, willingness
to please, and stamina to work all day. I started out doing hunt
test and then field trials to then competing in obedience, and
finally in conformation. I have competed in hunt tests, AKC, UKC,
Obedience CKC and AKC, and conformation CKC and AKC. I enjoy the
sport and most of all the dogs enjoy themselves. I only do
selective breedings and my motto has always been “Quality not
Quantity”.
I am working on my
judging requirements for Group one. Assignments have included
sweepstakes for group one, Labradors specialties, AKC, CKC
sanction matches for Group 1,3,4,5 7 and best in Match. I have
attended recently a judging seminar for the sporting group
breeds in Michigan. This was a fabulous opportunity to see and
be mentored in the different breeds in the group. I hope I can
learn as much as there is in the fabulous breed of the Vizslas.
I am presently do ring side studying and working with several
Viszla breeders to understand more about the temperament,
structure, drive, and of course conformation in your lovely
breed.
I am pleased to be
offered to do your Sweepstakes and hope that I can come away
with more knowledge and understanding of this wonderful breed.
